Construction Technology and Covid-19

At Gradon we are always looking for ideas to improve operational performance. The use of technology in construction is moving rapidly and the impact of Covid-19 has only increased the speed of adaption. Construction News has recently published an interesting article covering construction in general and we see the obvious extension of use into our field of civils in water, energy, and infrastructure.

We have seen an increase in the use of technology in our operations. Working from home and video conferencing, allowing non-site essential team members to carry on working at the beginning of lockdown.

This has continued as sites have opened up and some of the restrictions have lifted. One of the significant benefits that we have seen at Gradon has been in the increased use of digital compliance and record keeping. The driver of Covid-19 has, in effect, accelerated our use of tablets, and mobiles, in the maintenance of our site systems; induction records, toolbox talks, risk assessments, safe systems of work and plant records. This is something that we will build on in the coming weeks and months.
